❓ Is it better to get a small or large dog?

Choosing between a small or large dog depends on your lifestyle, space, and experience. Size alone doesn’t determine difficulty, as both small and large breeds have different behavioural needs and challenges.

Small or Large Dog?

It’s one of the first decisions people make — but not always for the right reasons.

What People Usually Think

Small dogs:👉 easier (can most definitiely NOT be true!!)

Large dogs:👉 harder

But it’s not that simple.

The Reality

Both come with:

  • Different challenges

  • Different needs

  • Different behaviour patterns

Diving A Bit Deeper...

Small dogs:

  • Still need training...it always amazes me how long issues are ignored with smaller dogs

  • Can develop serious behaviour problems - they're just magnified with a bigger dog

Large dogs:

  • Aren’t always harder

  • Can be calm and manageable

What Actually Matters

  • Your lifestyle

  • Your experience

  • Your expectations
